We are looking forward to enjoying Summer with you!
Me – tourist guide? Why not!
I recently had a friend visit me from the UK, she came at the end of Las Palmas Carnival and couldn’t believe how much was going on in the City, I told her Las Palmas is like New York, it’s the city that never sleeps, particularly in Summer.
Summer starts, for me, at the end of April, although we’ve had a fantastically mild Winter, the weather really starts to improve in May and it’s a time to be outdoors (a great opportunity to practise my Spanish). In my village of Santa Brigida we were at that time preparing for Flora Brigida and it took some preparation. The Municipal Park is transformed into an ‘observation of flora and fauna’. It’s filled with flower displays and waterfalls, sofas are strategically placed for relaxing with that all important glass of wine on offer at the nearby bar. It really needs to be experienced.
For the night owls
If you don’t fancy venturing into the mountains, Las Palmas has so much to offer. At the end of April we have Good Night Triana, shops are open later so you can shop, eat, drink coffee, shop some more and enjoy the many live bands on street corners, the atmosphere is electric, if you are more of a literature fan, you can visit the book festival at Park San Telmo which also offers different genres of books, cafes and live music.
The weather is fantastic but not too hot, you can take part in some of the many water sports on offer or just chill out on Las Canteras beach until the sun goes down. If you want to see the City in a unique way, why not take a Segway Tour, what a great way to see everything at a slower pace.
We’ll be here for you in Summer!
If you want culture outdoors, then Temudas fest is for you. Running throughout July and August, it offers, live music, dance and theatre. There are events and street theatre, running from Vegueta Old town through Triana all the way to Park Santa Catalina so there is plenty of choice and amazing to experience. What a great way to practise your Spanish or English!
For those who are aware of the importance of learning languages, we have prepared for this Summer different activities! In the mornings of July, your children can join our Summer School, where they can improve their conversation skills, enjoy different activities on the beach and practise some yoga. In the afternoons you can learn English in Las Palmas. There are going to be intensive English and Spanish courses for you!
If you are looking for something more upbeat, Gran Canaria Jazz festival is held in a range of venues from town squares to theatres throughout the island with performances from newcomers to national and international artists.
Want more options?
Finally, for party animals, there is the Las Palmas Beer and Music festival in September. You can try some of the world-famous beers on offer whilst enjoying live bands at Park Santa Catalina, the atmosphere is buzzing and there are some fantastic local dishes on offer around the venue so you can try some traditional Canarian cuisine in and amongst.
So, if you want to chill, party, experience culture or cuisine, learn English and Spanish, Las Palmas in Summer really is the place to be!
