3 pasos para ser más eficaz que nunca con tu tarea

Hoy quiero hablar sobre dos tipos de tareas: las nuestras y las tuyas.

Te entendemos cuando dices:

1. Tengo prisa, necesito el certificado cuanto antes

2. Tengo que prepararme para la entrevista y traducir mi carta de presentación

3. Mañana no puedo venir a la clase

¿Has dicho alguna de estas frases en los últimos meses?

Hay más ejemplos que solemos escuchar a diario y por ello preparamos un post que te ayudará a entender que detrás de cada petición tuya hay una conversación muy seria de nuestro equipo porque queremos que cada uno de nuestros alumnos aprenda bajo las mismas condiciones. Tus peticiones son nuestras tareas y siempre intentamos darte la solución más profesional posible.

Vamos parte por parte:

#1 Tengo prisa, necesito el certificado cuanto antes. 

El tiempo aproximado para que una persona se prepare para un examen de Cambridge depende de su nivel de inglés y del tiempo que tiene para estudiar en casa. Louise hace un par de semanas habló sobre la diferencia entre las clases de preparación para el examen y las clases para aprender disfrutando. A nosotros nos gusta trabajar las dos modalidades de forma seria y exigente, por ello siempre comentamos la realidad contigo. Además, antes de inscribirte al examen, te ofrecemos una clase gratuita donde puedes hacer el examen de tu nivel y realmente ver qué resultados obtendrías. No te olvides: la clase del mock exam es gratuita.

#2 Tengo que prepararme para la entrevista y traducir mi carta de presentación 

Ofrecemos un curso de 3 horas para los que están preparándose para una entrevista en inglés. En esta clase podrás preparar las respuestas de las preguntas más típicas en el mundo laboral y, además, conocerás algunas preguntas más complejas y obtendrás las estrategias necesarias para que el día de tu “interview” estés preparado.

Si quieres complementar tus clases de entrevista con otras clases de inglés general para seguir practicando, siempre podrás hacerlo aunque solo sea durante unas semanas.

#3 Mañana no puedo venir a la clase 

Para cualquier cancelación que se realice con antelación tenemos una solución. Desde el día que canceles, tienes 2 semanas para recuperar tu clase en otro grupo del nivel parecido.

La única forma donde no te podemos ofrecer una solución es cuando nos cancelas tu clase individual con menos de 24 horas de antelación.

Esto es lo que dice nuestra alumna Irene al proponerle recuperar su última clase:

“No te preocupes, en verdad me has dejado recuperar montón de clases, cosa que te agradezco y mucho. Muchas gracias por todo, me ha gustado mucho la experiencia en la academia y espero volver en algún momento.”

Como puedes observar, siempre buscamos soluciones e intentamos mejorar el servicio para ti. ¿Y cómo aprovechas tú las clases?

Para que sigas mejorando con más constancia y para que tu productividad a la hora de hacer tu tarea en inglés aumente, te presentamos 3 pasos a seguir.

Para empezar, tienes que entender que tener abiertas 10 ventanas en tu Navegador, tu correo y todas las notificaciones en el móvil, no ayuda. 🙂

Me encanta saber que eres capaz de hacer el multitasking, pero vamos a intentar dar un paso atrás. Antes que nada, tienes que tomar la decisión de entrenar tu mente para NO mirar el teléfono o empezar a responder a tus correos mientras haces la tarea. Los sonidos de notificación te hac

en sentir bien, porque sabes que alguien piensa en ti, pero necesitamos que te concentres, controlando tu tiempo y tu mente.

Los pasos que te proponemos son muy simples:

1. Haz las cosas creativas primero. 

Por ejemplo, primero haz las tareas donde tienes que escribir textos o hacer lecturas largas. 

Si quieres, incluso podrías escribir algo en inglés para nuestro blog.

A veces es mucho más fácil aprender si decides empezar a escribir textos donde utilizas todo el vocabulario y estructuras gramaticales recién aprendidos. A mí me encantaba hacerlo cuando estudiaba español.

Entonces, intenta siempre escribir algo. Siempre podrás entregarlo a tu profesora aunque no haya sido tu tarea.

 2. Modo avión. 

Cuando estás en la clase o cuando estás haciendo la tarea, pon tu teléfono en el modo avión. Esto es lo que hago cuando voy a yoga o a algún curso donde aprendo algo nuevo – me gusta estar plenamente presente en la actividad. Esto significa que mantengo el móvil en modo avión hasta 15 min después de que la actividad termine.

 3. Encuentra tu lugar para estudiar y decide qué tarea vas a hacer en ese momento 

Apunta en tu agenda cuándo será tu tiempo para poder hacer la tarea de inglés. Busca un lugar, donde puedes estar solo/a y así puedes dedicar tu tiempo a una cosa. Si necesitas 30 minutos, prepárate tu café primero. Una vez que estés sentado, intenta no dejar este lugar hasta que termines tu trabajo. La sensación es increíble.

Before planning any trip to a new place I personally check not only the flights but also the transports to arrive at my final destination. When I planned my trip to Las Palmas it wasn’t different.

So when we landed at the Airport, I immediately checked if the busses I had found in Germany (online) were there for real and so it was!

Now, you have to know that the busses are for some reason on the other side of the airport. Just follow the signs and you’ll be guided until the exit where the busses are. Don’t get confused if under the bus sign you see “Global” – is just the name of the suburban bus company.

You’ll then take the bus to San Telmo and from there you can go basically anywhere in Las Palmas! I also recommend to take the bus because it costs just 2.30 euros to San Telmo (Triana and Vegueta area) or 2.95 euros to Santa Catalina (Las Canteras, Mesa y López, Guanarteme area) but if your flight is at night you can easily take a taxi. The cost of a taxi is around 30 euros.

If you are looking for means of transport to get you around Las Palmas de Gran Canaria city, GUAGUAS MUNICIPALES would be the right company for you.

Another option is: Sitycleta. This is the bycicle public system that operates within the city, you can use normal bikes and also e-bikes to move around the city. Definitely, a great idea.

In Las Palmas doesn’t matter if you are a meat lover or not you can easily find vegan restaurants or restaurants with vegan options. I’m not vegan myself but since my classmate is, I tried it for a week and I must say it was easier than I thought!

Although the streets might be a bit confusing we often take the beach as a reference to know exactly where we are without having to constantly check Maps. The important part is: Learn a little bit of Spanish if you want to get the message across. It was way easier to get around and people were super friendly and helped us a lot! When I think about it, 1 month ago seems like a lot of time but it went faster than I could ever imagine.

And when you especially think about the fact that this was my first time in Spain after learning Spanish, it’s even crazier! I made a lot of mistakes and sometimes things didn’t turn out as I expected but from those mistakes I could just learn how to move around better and with more confidence. Do you remember Nika’s experience, our Erasmus student from last year? She spoke about some cultural shocks too 🙂

For example: I learned that here things go way slower than in Germany, especially here in Gran Canaria or that it’s not allowed to drink on the street. These were the cultural shocks that actually hit me.

But what did I actually learn from Gran Canaria? Well, first of all grocery shopping. Having a supermarket downstairs, we didn’t think twice about where to buy food. We were wrong. We afterwards realised that it is way cheaper to buy fruit and vegetables in a frutería. The supermarket we went to is also one of the most expensive ones. This is a common mistake people make when in a new country.

When I moved to Germany I did the same mistake and when I went for vacations to London it did get better with the time passing by, but you can speed up the process if you check once in a while all the options available.

Las Palmas’ nightlife is also a bit strange. My friend and I asked for, searched for and went to many clubs and bars that on the internet were ranked as the best experience in LP. This wasn’t the case for us, especially for me due to my music taste and general preferences in terms of clubs and bars. But we found the holy grail when we talked to some locals. They told us to go to San Telmo and once there we could find what we searched for, and so it was. If you are into something different than reggaeton and more “underground”, try the PKDK: nice little location with affordable cocktails and nice people :).

Also if you want to try a nice Sangría I recommend visiting the Café Habana. If you can speak a little bit of Spanish it’s even easier to get in contact with people and get the insider tips to experience LP at its best :).

Nadie dijo que iba a ser fácil.

Desde que empecé la Universidad hubo algo que me quedó muy claro: para conseguir las cosas en la vida, tengo que luchar por ellas. Durante la carrera mis padres solo me dejaban trabajar en los meses de verano para que pudiera centrarme en los estudios y no en cómo ganar dinero extra durante el año. Ha sido una estrategia fantástica para mi desarrollo profesional.

En los meses de verano trabajaba en una tienda de deporte (Intersport – y así iba aprendiendo qué significaba atención al cliente y trabajar con personas).

En la carrera de filología hispánica he visto por primera vez que si quieres aprender un idioma, es mejor ir a vivir al país donde lo hablan y hacer un curso de idiomas – no pretendas que solamente con estudiar filología de un idioma vayas a ser capaz de utilizarlo. Si quieres convertirte en una profesora (como yo), entonces sí es la carrera correcta, pero si encima quieres hablarlo BIEN, tendrás que optar también por un curso donde harán todo lo posible para que disfrutes mientras aprendas.

Lo mejor de aprender idiomas es cambiar de profesor, ver cómo lo enseñan diferentes personas e ir sacando el máximo provecho de tus horas apuntando también las muletillas que utilizan.

?Terminar la carrera y mudarme a Gran Canaria

Cuando terminé la carrera, hice un año de máster para convertirme en profesora de español como lengua extranjera. Con mucha ilusión, vine a vivir a Gran Canaria pero empezar a trabajar en algo para lo que me he preparado al 100% no ha sido fácil.

En este punto de mi blog de hoy me gustaría que vieras un video que vi la semana pasada y me hizo pensar mucho. Personalmente me considero una persona con la inteligencia interpersonal bastante bien desarrollada y nunca se me dio muy bien la física. Y cuando vi este video, decidí compartirlo contigo porque me parece una de las claves de la suerte y el éxito, no solo en el aprendizaje de inglés sino en la vida. Habla de:

Autoestima

Tengo que reconocer que se me olvidó avisarles cuando tuvimos nuestro segundo cumpleaños. Aquí les dejo con nuestro día de apertura que tuvo lugar en junio de 2016.

Cuando paso por la academia y veo a estos alumnos hablando inglés sin darse cuenta del paso que están haciendo, me alegra el corazón.

Para terminar, solo puedo añadir: sea cual sea tu punto débil, no te rindas. Empieza. Date una oportunidad. Crece. Si ves que no puedes, inténtalo otra vez. Porque con la práctica te harás mejor y conseguirás sin duda lo que estamos consiguiendo nosotros en NikaTeacher – éxito al enseñarte.

YouTubers meeting

For the first time in Spain Meeting & Youtubers was created, an event for aspiring YouTubers.

Because of my curiosity I had to go there and check it out due also to the fact that I am not new to the YouTube world and that I thought about the idea of becoming a YouTuber myself.

The event started with a brief introduction of the main guests such as the marketing director Patricia González and the talent manager Teresa Guerra. This first opened the convention and began explaining how important it is to know about copyright, copy strike and fair use.

In fact due to such errors from creators may happen that a video gets demonitised (the video doesn’t make a revenue anymore) or gets completely cancelled. She also went through all the parts of the production of a video and gave tips and tricks on how to start from zero, encouraging us to start and telling us that at the beginning also a phone is enough to record, the important is to have the passion to produce content.

The second on the stage was the youtuber Keyblade. He talked about his own experience as a YouTuber and answered some questions from the fans.

The last but not least on the stage was Teresa Guerra. She went deep into the algorithm and showed us what YouTube likes to offer to the view, based on thumbnail, title, tags and length of a video. For example, if a video gets viewed less than 70 – 75%, the algorithm will see this as not interesting. This is called watch time and influences also the revenue.

Of course after all these numbers and diagrams people got a bit discouraged but they kept telling to the public to follow their passion. There was also the possibility to be a YouTuber for a minute and get to use all the equipment they provide. The best video would have won a price. At the end we had a Meet and Greet with the present YouTubers who kindly responded to further questions, took pictures and gave some advice to the fans.

The event was not only interesting but also a possibility to get to really know how this platform works and motivated me even more to one day produce my own content.
